Message from the Chairman of the Cheshire Walking Football Group.

It is with regret I have to inform our readers / participants that the Cheshire Walking Football Group based in Northwich will cease to function with immediate effect.

Following the retirement of our secretary, George Brady, and despite huge efforts to find a suitable replacement we have been unable to find that replacement. Additionally, health issues to other committee members have forced us into this decision to terminate this Walking Football facility.

The tournament (Summer Cup) due to be held at Northwich this coming July has been cancelled as has the annual autumn competition.

Should anyone wish to take over this established group and continue to hold walking football tournaments in Northwich I would be very happy to talk with them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported CWFG by participating in our tournaments and extend my sincere thanks to those committee members who assisted me and in particular George Brady in making this venture the success it had become.

I hope not to lose contact with all you “walkers” and look forward to meeting you at the various competitions within the North West area.

Cheshire Walking Football
A Recent Tournament

A team consists of 9 players, 6 playing (including a goalkeeper) and 3 substitutes, who drop in and out of the game; maybe for a rest but also to ensure everybody gets a game.
Duration of the game is 15 minutes.
There is minimum physical contact to reduce the chance of injury.
The game has a referee and first aid facilities.
A player can play anywhere on the pitch, just follow the ball.
The team that scores the most goals wins.

Before the start of the game a warm up takes place. This helps to reduce injury when playing.
No running allowed, just walking. This drives players to use good passing skills and communication.
There is a set of FA rules that is standard for all games in Cheshire Walking Football.
The game is played with a healthy dose of fun and laughter.
